Attribute for <COLGROUP ...>
SPAN = integer

SPAN indicates how many columns are in the group. SPAN works just like <COL SPAN="...">. The default (i.e. if you don't use SPAN at all) is 1.

For example, the following code creates a table in which the first column group has a span of 2: 

<TABLE BORDER CELLPADDING=5>

<COLGROUP WIDTH="10%" SPAN=2 ALIGN=CENTER></COLGROUP>
<COLGROUP WIDTH="80%"></COLGROUP>

</TABLE>

which gives us this table:
